Castles, castles and more castles...

What I love so much about exploring lands that existed long before the country that I come from was born, is that there is so much history. The history of castles, of ancient stone circles, they have all left their marks on the world we experience today. It gives a different vibe to the environment, one that leaves room for wonder and wondering. It stimulates one's imagination of other worlds and times.

Castles in Wales, Caerphilly Castle

Wales has an abundance of castles, along with abbeys, priories, churches and towers and the left-overs of ancient roman towns. During my stay I have become a member of CADW, the organisation that maintains all the ancient buildings aka ruins and I've been able to visit about fifteen locations and get a good impression of medieval (and earlier) times. Membership is pretty cool, it means that you can access all sites for free and receive a good discount with the English Heritage sites. If you plan to visit Wales for a longer period of time or multiple times within a year, it is worth considering a CADW membership
