Blessed by a golden light

At dawn I quietly leave the house. It is still dark and so quiet, not even a breeze that stirs the air. I close the gate behind me, the clicking sound it makes is loudly audible. As I step onto the cobbled street, looking at the old white fishermen's cottages, a bubble of joy wells up in me, and I call out loud "good morning Clovelly" to this beautiful village and all and everyone who is part of it. Then I set off to the harbour.

The water is calm and the anchored boats sway gently on the rhythm of the small waves of the incoming tide. On the horizon, a pink glow announces the rise of the sun. The cliffs underneath start to turn from night black into a misty blue shade. To my right, I can hear the sound of the waterfall. Taking off my shirt and shoes, I look around the harbour: nothing moves, the village is still asleep. Step by step I make my way to the water. As my feet touch the water, a shiver runs through me. It feels cold! No, I tell myself, change your mindset. I slow down my breath, emptying my mind of thoughts. Then I create the belief that the water is comfortable to be in, that my body can handle the temperature change with ease and that it is refreshing and soothing. I let my body relax, look at the horizon, put a smile on my face and swim off. The smile broadens: the water does indeed feel cool and refreshing, and while I swim out of the harbour, I enjoy it more and more.

The pink sky is getting brighter and when I'm just beyond the harbour wall, a golden fire starts to come up behind the cliffs. I let myself drift while I keep looking. This is pure magic. Being here, in this village in another world, swimming in the sea surrounded by impressive cliffs, watching the sun rise. The sun seems to look forward to this brand new day, so quickly does the golden globe rise up.

The sea gulls also enjoy the sunrise and start flying around in the harbour, calling out their morning greetings. I look up at them and greet them in return. By now, the sun is a magnificent golden globe above the cliffs and its light is getting brighter and brighter. I thank life from my heart for this magical moment and then turn around to swim back, towards the village that is slowly coming to life.

Clovelly is such a miraculous village, that I've decided to create a 'storybook' on this travelblog telling magical adventures of one of the most magical places on Earth. You find the storybook here and in the menu.
